An art project.
When I was little my friends and I would play dress-up and make pictures of each other using disposable cameras. It didn’t feel weird. It wasn’t awkward. It was just girls girl-ing to music, unapologetically feeling ourselves and being creative together. We would OF COURSE have that film developed and proudly display that work on our dressers and in photo albums. No shame.
Somewhere along the way posing for pictures became uncomfortable, being creative for the sake of creativity became frivolous, and being seen, or seeing yourself, became vain. So, we shrank and shaped ourselves into ill-fitting boxes.
Welp. My body aches from years of confusion and trying to morph into someone societally palatable, so I’m bussin’ out that box! Also, as much as I love being a woman… DAMN… it’s a hormonal whirlwind of mind and body ebbs and flows. So, I’m creating something to honor this wild ride and the jailbreaking from boxes. I’m bringing back the picture parties. The music. The girls girl-ing. The unapologetic self love. An art project that combines the poetry of astrology and portraiture to learn about and celebrate girl/womanhood.
